Birth control error could cause unintended pregnancy

by Administrator 2. February 2012 14:49

Pfizer has issued a recall on nearly a million birth control pills after a mix up with placebos could cause women to become untintentionally pregnant.

The brand affected by the mix up is Lo/Ovral-38 and its generics norgestrel and ethinyl estradiol tablets. The defective packages have expiration dates between July 31, 2013 to March 31, 2014. Women who believe they have a defective package are stronly encouraged to start using non-hormonal birth control immediately.

It is common for placebos to be packaged with contraceptive pills, but when the sequence is out of order, as in this case, the contraceptives could become significantly weakened and pose an increased risk of pregnancy.
