Father charged with child endangerment

by Administrator 28. December 2011 15:15

A 37 year-old Cedar Rapids man was arrested last week after he crashed his SUV with his two young children inside.

The father told police officers that he had been drinking earlier that night, and his blood alcohol content at the scene was registered at 0.152. Police say the man lost control of his vehicle, hit a basketball pole, and then struck a tree. His two children, an 8 year-old girl and a 7 year-old boy, were taken to University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.

His daughter was released after receiving treatment for bleeding in the brain and facial injuries. The young boy is currently still in the hospital in a body cast; he is suffering from a fractured back and a broken leg. The man has been charged with two counts of child endangerment resulting in serious injury and two counts of serious injury by motor vehicle.

Radio Flyer toy recalled

by Administrator 17. August 2011 14:43

165,000 Scoot 'n Zooms, a riding toy made by Radio Flyer, have been recalled after receiving 10 reports of child injuries. The toy is prone to tip over while being ridden; some children who have fallen have had their teeth loosened or knocked out or had to get stitches for cuts on their chin.

The toy was sold in Wal-Mart and Target stores, as well as on Amazon.com for around $20 between August 2010 to August 2011. There are two different Scoot 'n Zooms on the market, but only one with the model number 711 is being recalled. Radio Flyer will refund parents the $20 or will provide them with a replacement unit.

Cedar Rapids Father Accused of Killing Child

by Administrator 9. March 2011 10:54

The father of a Cedar Rapids 18-month old girl has been accused of causing the head trauma that eventually led to the child's death last year. The mother of the child filed a civil lawsuit against the father, as well as his girlfriend, for wrongful death and the abuse of the child.

The child was staying with her father, when employees at the child's daycare noticed bruising and bumps on the girl's head. The daycare reported the injuries to a child services center, but the girl was already dead at that point. While the father has denied charges of abuse, he has admitted to causing the head trauma that proved to be fatal for the child.

A criminal charge has not yet been filed as officials believe that they do not have enough evidence to accuse the father of the crime.
