A 59-year-old woman recently reached a settlement with a New Jersey restaurant after she filed a lawsuit against the restaurant for slipping and falling on its premises and suffering a severe brain injury.

In January 2008, the woman was dining at the restaurant with co-workers when she attempted to walk out to the restaurant's patio. The woman lost her balance and slipped, falling down several stairs and hitting her head on the concrete pavement below the patio. She suffered a serious skull fracture and brain contusions that required to her to undergo surgery and rehabilitation for several months.

The restaurant agreed to pay the woman $1.7 million for medical expenses and pain and suffering following the accident.
