Mother of Young Boy Wins Lawsuit Against Preschool

by Administrator 30. March 2011 14:05

A preschool was ordered to pay $1.5 million to the mother of a boy who died while in the preschool's care.

The boy, who was 22 months-old, died after he choked on a peach while at the Lambuth Memorial Preschool. A lawsuit was then filed, which stated that the preschool was negligent in its care of the young boy and that caregivers did not supervise the baby as he ate. Witnesses who testified in court claimed that the preschool violated several guidelines imposed by the Department of Human Services for child safety at daycares, including not having enough employees per child and not having proper supervision of children during lunchtime.

The $1.5 million was issued for punitive damages against the preschool. The mother of the boy has stated that she his happy that the trial is over but that the money does not replace her son.
