One person was killed and two were injured during a car accident that occurred in Marathon, Iowa on Sunday afternoon.

According to reports from the Iowa State Patrol, an 18-year-old man was traveling southbound on County Road with four other passengers in his vehicle. The man ran a stop sign at the intersection of Highway 10 and crashed into an SUV that was traveling eastbound. The SUV rolled over, and both vehicles ended up in a nearby ditch.

After arriving on the scene of the accident, officers and emergency workers found a 17-year-old girl dead. She had been a passenger in the vehicle driven by the 18-year-old man. Two other passengers from that vehicle were seriously injured and taken to Buena Vista Regional Medical Center. The people in the SUV were not seriously injured.

Our thoughts and sympathies are with the friends and families of the victims of this accident.
