Seven years after an Indiana woman died of lung cancer, the doctor who failed to diagnose the woman with cancer has been found guilty of medical malpractice and causing indirect death to a patient.
The woman went to the doctor after suffering several ailments. Prosecutors of the case found that the doctor intentionally failed to diagnose the woman's ailments as cancer because he wanted to profit from treating each of her ailments individually. By not diagnosing the woman with lung cancer, he was able charge for multiple tests and treatments that were unnecessary.
The family of the woman who died was awarded $13 million in damages. The doctor, who is also facing 350 other medical malpractice charges, has lost his license and is facing several years in prison.
