FDA warns against combining certain perscription drugs

by Administrator 9. August 2011 14:03

The US Food and Drug Administration recently reported that individuals taking methylene blue dye and the antibiotic linezolid should not be taken with serotonergic drugs. Taking them together can result in a serious drug interaction that can lead to serotonin syndrome.

Serotonin syndrome can lead to death, and some deaths have been reported with interactions with linezolid. Symptoms of serotonin syndrome include confusion, hyperactivity, memory problems, muscle twitching, excessive sweating, shivering or shakin, diarrhea, trouble with coordination, and fever. Reported adverse reactions have included lethargy, delirium, agitation, aggression, coma, myoclonus, expressive aphasia, hypertonia, and seizures.

If you or someone you love has been harmed by the actions of a negligent medical professional you may be entitled to financial compensation for your suffering. Contact the Cedar Rapids drug interactions and complications attorneys of the Pete Leehey Law Firm, P.C., at 319-294-4424
