According to court documents, the 46-year-old man responsible for the reckless driving crash last Thursday that killed two children and left their mother and another child with serious injuries has over a dozen prior traffic-related charges on his record.
Previous charges include failure to maintain control, leaving the scene of an injury accident, reckless driving, and speeding.
The man failed to stop for a stop sign at the stop sign of Southeast Tone's Drive and Southeast Creekview Drive in Ankeny, according to police.
He then smashed into a minivan with a mother and her three children inside.
All persons involved were taken to area hospitals, where the 5-year-old and 5-month-old children died. A 3-year-old and the mother remain in critical condition.
The man suffered non-life threatening injuries. Charges are pending.
