A semi-truck crashed into a Union Pacific train early Monday morning in Cedar County. The driver of the truck is currently in serious condition.
Investigators say the man was a worker at a nearby farm and was on his way to pick up grain. The owner of the farm said he saw the truck crossing the railroad, but was not sure if he made it in time. It wasn't until he checked out the scene that he saw the driver was seriously injured.
The crash is currently under investigation. There are no warning lights or a crossing guard when the road crosses the railroad, but law enforcement says there are no obstructions that would prevent a motorist from seeing an approaching train.
The man is currently at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics; responders say he is very lucky and, despite his injuries, was conscious and talking.
