Cedar Rapids Food Product & Container Lawyers
When we purchase food products, we expect that they will be free from contaminants that may cause food poisoning. Furthermore, we expect the products we use to store our food will be similarly free from hazardous organisms, and will effectively perform their functions. If our food is improperly packed, handled, or stored, it may begin to grow organisms that can cause food poisoning. Furthermore, if a food container is defective, it may create an environment that fosters such growth.
If you or a loved one has suffered an injury due to a defective food or food storage product, contact Cedar Rapids defective food product attorney, Pete Leehey at 319-294-4424, and we will evaluate your case.
Types of Food Poisoning
- Salmonella: The second most common cause of food poisoning, salmonella commonly occurs in eggs and milk, and can be contagious.
- Listeria: Soft cheeses and similar foods can cause this form food poisoning, and may be especially risky to pregnant women and the elderly.
- E. Coli: Most strains of E. Coli are benign; in fact, E. Coli is an integral part of the flora in our stomach and intestines. However, the O157 strain of E. Coli may cause severe sickness or even death.
- Clostridium: A form of the bacteria that causes botulism, clostridium may be commonly found in canned food and certain meat products, and may cause nausea, diarrhea and fever. Furthermore, clostridium spores are not killed by heat, so foods that are cooked and then sit for a long period of time may be especially at risk for clostridium.
