Pool Drain Injury
Though to many people it would seem that having a swimming pool in your backyard or on an appropriate commercial property would be an obvious advantage, the fact is that many people and small corporate interests are discouraged from this because of the substantial maintenance involved. Keeping a pool clean and safe for use requires an ongoing commitment of time, money, and energy to the effort and with the demands of daily life and the limited budget of a growing company this can be simply prohibitive. As a result, there has been an increased use of automatic pool filtering systems.
Unfortunately, these systems rely upon powerful suction to draw water out of the pool so that it can be cleaned, and this forceful pulling can seriously injure a swimmer who becomes caught. If you have been hurt by an automatic pool cleaning system, then we can help. Contact the Cedar Rapids pool drain injury lawyers of the Pete Leehey Law Firm, P.C. at 319-294-4424.
Recent Regulatory Changes
As the dangers associated with the use of these pool drains became increasingly apparent, the United States Congress passed new regulatory legislation intended to force pool drain manufacturers to produce systems that were safer for use. The newer systems must observe the following new requirements:
- Covers that adequately shield swimmers from the drains
- Automatic emergency pump shutoff
- Manual override shutoff must be included
- The filtration systems must be sufficiently ventilated so that the force of suction can be reduced
